My name is Kat, or Kitty, or Kitty Lou if you've reached here via my Burlesque site. This is the latest incarnation of thekitschgoth.co.uk, which has seen some awful coding in the past while I've taught myself web design from scratch. No doubt it'll undergo yet another transformation once I get bored of this one. Not for a little while though I hope.
I'm 23, and living in Brighton, though my hometown (unfortunately) is Slough. That wonderful grey commuter town, yes, the one they based The Office in. No, I haven't seen it, no, I don't want to either.
With that out of the way, lets move onto the other questions that tend to crop up. My online username has been TheKitschGoth for years, as far as I can remember it started way back when I was 16 and wearing far too much eyeliner and black lipstick. In fact there are some awful photos online somewhere, but I'm in no rush to share them with you. Maybe I should have discarded the username along with the makeup, but it's so much a part of me now. Why did I choose it? Originally it was a jokey name, meant to wind up the kind of people I kept running into in various music chat rooms. The Goth part of the name was always guaranteed to start off arguments with people that hated "Goths", though the definition of Goth usually only extended as far as "whiny kid in black clothes". The Kitsch part of the name wound up the aforementioned "whiny kids in black clothes", especially when accompanied by pink text, because then they had me down as unbearably cheerful girl into silly things. Did I do this because I was an awkward pain in the arse? Well yes, but mainly because it made it so much easier to spot the people I didn't want to talk to online. Subsequently I made a lot of really good friends online, and still speak to most of them 7 years down the line. Not bad going really.
In case you are wondering about the opening phrase on the home page, "Kitsch: Useless, worthless but fun", it was a definition of "kitsch" I found in a dictionary years ago which made me smile.
What else am I interested in? Well, Photography is the main interest, but I imagine the rest of the site gives that away. I'm slowly getting into vintage fashion, especially that of the 40's and 50's, and am trying to learn to sew so that I can make my own clothes based on vintage patterns. Hoping to learn to dance as well, what better way to show off the clothes?
My musical tastes obviously include Goth, but also.. well just about anything. I'm open minded. Favourite authors include Douglas Adams, Tom Holt, Irvine Welsh and Neil Gaiman. Favourite movies are Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Velvet Goldmine, Rocky Horror and Breakfast on Pluto (and yes, I'm aware there's a theme there). Anything else you want to know then feel free to message me on my MySpace, or through the contact page here.
